Human Remains Found in Case of Missing Student
HAWKINSVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT/AP)- Human remains have been found by investigators in the disappearance of a Middle Georgia State College student, which is being treated as a homicide.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said the remains were collected Friday in Hawkinsville.
The GBI said in a statement that the evidence was found in an area adjacent to the home of a 17-year-old suspect, who faces a murder charge.
Authorities had been searching the area, where a building burned around the time 19-year-old Jmaal Malik Keyes was last seen. 41NBC’s Tucker Sargent was there Friday as crews searched the area around Cabero Road.
GBI Spokesperson Sherry Lang said DNA tests are now being conducted on the remains to determine if they belong to Keyes.
Keyes, a freshman from Austell, was last seen on the school’s Cochran campus April 25.
