Houston County Support Group Looking to Raise Awareness About Type I Diabetes
WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – 14-year-old Brandon Hankinson knows how to manage his diabetes, but what he can’t control is how kids at school handle his disease.
“One kid he actually told me he was going to rip my pump out,” says Brandon.
Brandon’s insulin pump is his life-line. His mom Tammy believes her son is a victim of teenage taunting because kids just don’t understand Type-1 Diabetes.
“It’s not a disease that you can really see on the outside. It goes on on the inside so um, they don’t understand it because of that. It’s nothing that they can see so it’s hard for people to understand,” says Tammy.
