Houston County Sheriff’s Office: Watch Out for Phone Scammers

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Houston County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public to be aware of money hungry phone scammers.

Capt. Jon Holland with the sheriff’s office says over the last several days, nearly a dozen scamming calls were reported.  During most of the calls, a scammer tells the person who answers that one of their family members has been injured, kidnapped or imprisoned.

The scammer usually asks the person who answers not to inform authorities and asks him or her to send money to help out the family member.

If you receive any of these calls, please disconnect immediately and never provide your personal information to any caller you don’t know.  Holland says so far, no one has fallen victim to the scam, but the sheriff’s office wants the public to be aware.

If you feel someone is trying to scam you, contact your local authorities.
