Houston County Sheriff’s Office warns residents of new scam

Deputies say the scammers are using actual deputies' names and telling people they have unpaid fines or warrants, and asking fore money.

HOUSTON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Houston County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a recent scam.

Deputies say the scammers are using actual deputies’ names and telling people they have unpaid fines or warrants, and asking fore money.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, it will never call you to ask for money or tell you you have a warrant.

The Sheriff’s Office says scammers are also posing as employees as law firms and medical offices.

They recommend that you never share any personal information over the phone.
