Houston County dedicates building to Sheriff Cullen Talton, nation’s longest-serving sheriff
Community celebrates more than 50 years of service by Sheriff Talton with renovated building dedication

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Emotions ran high in Warner Robins on Thursday during a building dedication ceremony to honor Sheriff Cullen Talton.
Hundreds of people gathered to witness the dedication of the newly renovated building, which will now be called the “Sheriff H. Cullen Talton Jr. Building” in honor of the longest-serving sheriff in the United States.
Sheriff Talton was elected sheriff in 1972 and is currently serving his 13th and final term.
Leaders, officers and members of the community came out to show their support and appreciation for his more than 50 years of service to the county.
The newly renovated building will house the Houston County Sheriff’s Office and the Houston County Tax Commissioner’s Office.
“It’s just a real honor to name this building after a man who’s devoted 52 years of his life as sheriff,” Houston County Board of Commissioners Chairman Dan Perdue said. “It’s been a life full of public service.”
Tax Commissioner Mark Kushinka spoke about how excited he is to be able to serve residents via a drive-thru.
“This will allow people just to drive up,” he said. “They don’t have to get out. They can do a tag renewal. They can do a property tax renewal.”
The renovation is expected to be complete by the end of March.
