Houston County schools reviewing security after Warner Robins High shooting

The district confirmed Warner Robins High School does not currently use a walk-through metal detection system.

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Houston County School District says it is reviewing its safety procedures and security measures after a firearm was brought onto the Warner Robins High School campus during Wednesday’s shooting.

According to the district, a staff member used a Centegix alert badge to activate the school’s lockdown procedures. The district says students and staff followed safety protocols, while law enforcement responded and a school resource officer provided medical assistance to the injured student until EMS arrived.

The district confirmed Warner Robins High School does not currently use a walk-through metal detection system.

“We have a responsibility to understand how that happened and what we can learn from it,” the district said regarding the firearm being brought onto campus.

The district says it is working with law enforcement and reviewing its current safety procedures and security measures. Officials said they want a full understanding of what happened before determining whether changes should be made.

The review comes after a student was shot at Warner Robins High School on Wednesday. Authorities said a 14-year-old ninth-grade student was taken into custody following the shooting.
