Houston County School Board Approves New Cell Phone Policy
On Tuesday, the Houston County Board of Education voted unanimously to approve a new cell phone policy that will now allow cell phones on campus.
School Operations Assistant Superintendent Linda Horne believes this will bring the previous policy up to current standards. However, students will still not be allowed cell phone use during school hours.
“Once school is dismissed they have the opportunity to use that cell phone if needed and what this does is that it provides some of those children that are in after school activities that need to call parents and say ‘come pick me up,’ then they can certainly do that,” says Horne.
The new policy goes into effect immediately.
Horne says the board plans to work with the schools to notify parents and students of proper procedures regarding cell phone use on campus.
