WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Law enforcement agencies across Houston County are coming together, looking to put an end to the surge in crimes related to domestic violence.

According to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, there have been 12 homicides in the county this year, 9 of which were directly related to acts of family violence. At a press conference Monday, Sheriff Matt mouton, along with the county’s three police department chiefs, and other local leaders called on residents to speak out early when they notice acts of family violence. Moulton says the law enforcement agencies will look to build on this initiative in the near future by working with community organizations.

We’re going to bring in more community partners to help with the deterrence of family violence and provide resources,” Moulton said. “If we can get churches involved, provide counseling. If we can get people to come in, school counselors, teachers, if they see any signs of family violence in the schools, churches, please let us know.”

The county’s law enforcement agencies encourage residents to contact Macon Regional Crimestoppers once identifying signs of family violence. Sgt. Greg Thomas says all tips that lead to arrests will be rewarded, and the identity of those who give the tips will remain anonymous through the time they collect their reward.

“We arrange at a certain bank of your choosing, we use Truist, but we arrange for you to pick up your reward at a given date and time,” Thomas said. “You go to the bank, you present the number that was given to you, your tip number. They present you with a reward, you endorse it with your tip number only. No ID is required. So, even the bank doesn’t know who you are.”
