Houston County launches new Houston Alerts emergency notification system

The free service replaces the county’s previous CodeRED alert system, which will be deactivated on July 22, 2025.

HOUSTON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Houston County Emergency Management has launched Houston Alerts, a new emergency notification system aimed at keeping residents and visitors informed during critical situations.

The free service replaces the county’s previous CodeRED alert system, which will be deactivated on July 22, 2025. Residents who were previously signed up for CodeRED will not be automatically transferred to Houston Alerts and must register for the new platform.

The new system addresses issues with outdated data and limited alert options in the former system. Houston Alerts allows users to choose how they receive alerts—via phone calls, text messages, and emails—and to customize the types of notifications they want to receive.

Optional alert categories include utility outages, significant traffic disruptions, and various weather alerts. All registrants will automatically receive emergency notifications such as tornado warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings, flash flood warnings, and other urgent messages from local public safety agencies.

To register, residents can visit www.houstoncountyga.gov and click on the alerts sign-up tab at the top of the page or scan the QR code on official county flyers.
