Army Reservist Billy Sparks chosen for Houston County Habitat’s 2024 Veterans Build

Warner Robins native and Army Reservist Billy Sparks to receive new home from Houston County Habitat for Humanity

HOUSTON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Billy Sparks was recently chosen by Houston County Habitat for Humanity as the organization’s 2024 Veterans Build candidate.

Sparks is an Army Reservist Officer and Warner Robins native.

“I didn’t really believe it at first, and they were like, ‘Yeah, you’re really getting one, and I was telling the kids and they were like, ‘For real? And I was like, ‘Yeah. So, it made me feel good to know that we have people in the community to like give back.”

The non-profit says Sparks is a perfect candidate. He adopted and cares for his three younger siblings and has a new baby.

HOCO Habitat says once it’s completed the home, Sparks and his family will have a four bedroom, two bathroom home.

“It’s amazing, because home changes everything for people,” Houston County Habitat Business Development Director Shannon Haskell said. “And we talk to people after they get their home and what we realize that kids are doing a lot better in school. A lot of types we see mom and dad going back to college and changing their own dreams, because prior to homeownership, they’re in survivor mode.”

Haskell said they would like to have Sparks’ home ready by August but they need a little help meeting the budget for building the home.
