Houston County doctor arrested for writing fake prescriptions
CENTERVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A doctor was arrested in Houston County after being accused of writing fake prescriptions.
56-year-old Michael Nelson Brady is charged with two counts of fraudulently obtaining a controlled substance and one count of possession and/or manufacturing certain controlled substances.
According to a news release from the GBI, on December 21, 2015, the Centerville Police Department requested help from the GBI and the Georgia Drugs and Narcotics Agency.
The police department began a prescription fraud investigation in Centerville.
On December 17, 2015, officers accused Dr. Brady of fraudulently written several prescriptions in a third party’s name without their consent.
Brady is an internal medicine doctor. He also works at the Heart of Georgia Medical Associates and Appearances Weight Loss Center in Warner Robins.
The release goes on to say between June 2014 and December 2015, Brady wrote prescriptions for Xanax — which is a Schedule IV drug.
A local pharmacy’s records show that Brady personally picked up the prescriptions that were in a third party’s name. .
Brady turned himself into the Houston County Sheriff’s Office. The case will be turned over to the district attorney after the investigation is complete.
