Houston County Board of Education announces new principal hires

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/ WMGT) – The Houston County Board of Education announced Dr. Art Billings as the new principal of Perry High School and Mrs. Kasey Hopkins as the principal of Matt Arthur Elementary during its meeting Tuesday.
Dr. Billings currently serves as an assistant principal and athletic director at Perry High. He has worked in the Houston County School District for 26 years.
“I am truly blessed to serve at my alma mater and work alongside the best educators in the state of Georgia,” said Dr. Billings. “I am deeply grateful to Dr. Scott, the Board members, and the Executive Cabinet for their trust and belief in me and for giving me the opportunity to serve in this role.”
Hopkins is currently the Assistant Principal of Instruction at Quail Run Elementary School. She has worked in Houston County for more than 10 years. She received the Assistant Principal of the Year Award for Georgia Association of Elementary School Principals District 11 in 2023.
“I would like to thank Dr. Scott, Dr. Rogers, and the Board of Education for the amazing opportunity to lead the staff and students of Matt Arthur Elementary as its next principal,” said Hopkins. “Together, we will continue to make Matt Arthur Elementary a place where learning thrives, kindness leads, and every child is given the tools to succeed. My plan is to maintain the standard of excellence that has been set by Dr. Harrell and work hard to grow staff and students to reach their highest potential. Every child, every day, no exceptions.”
Both will assume their new roles on June 2.
