House bill highlights ‘nuts and bolts’ of medical cannabis legislation

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – State Representative Allen Peake says the medical cannabis bill is gaining support after he pre-filed it on Monday.

Peake tells 41NBC, House Bill 1 sends a clear message to the general assembly and the public that passing this bill is a priority. He says it is fitting that the last bill to die on the House floor during this past legislative session is the first one debated in January.

The state lawmaker adds this is just a rough draft of the legislation.

“It’s basically a mission statement or intent of legislation, the nuts and bolts of the bill,” Peake said. “The details of the bill we’re still working on, [we’ll] hopefully finalize and probably we can introduce that to the public maybe mid December.”

Peake says since the medical cannabis bill died in March, 15 Georgia families moved to another state seeking treatment and three children who could benefit from this medicine have died.
