Horner: F1 Needs Ecclestone to Stay in Charge

LONDON (AP) – Red Bull team principal Christian Horner says it is vital Bernie Ecclestone remains in charge of Formula One as the series’ supremo battles bribery allegations.

Ecclestone is awaiting the outcome of a $140 million bribery trial relating to F1’s sale, which has placed his future in doubt.

Evidence was heard at London’s High Court about the measures Ecclestone allegedly took to maintain his grip on the motorsport series, claims the billionaire denies.

Regardless of the verdict, Horner strongly indicated on Wednesday that F1 needs to keep Ecclestone at the helm.

Horner says “Bernie is absolutely the best and only guy to do what he does, to take Formula One to the global reach that the sport has achieved … it’s in all our interests that he’s around as long as possible.”
