Hometown Celebration 2024 in Milledgeville happening Friday

Milledgeville won the Great American Mainstreet Award from Mainstreet America a decade ago and they have been celebrating the honor ever since.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It’s time to get outdoors and enjoy what Milledgeville has to offer: its annual Hometown Celebration.

Carlee Schulte, the Executive Director of Milledgeville Main Street, says the annual tradition began a decade ago and has grown every year since.

“We started the hometown celebration in 2014 when we won the Great American Mainstreet Award from Mainstreet America, so it was a celebration of that award and then each year we’ve just continued it because people loved it,” she said.

Jonathan Ewing, one of the owners at Amici Milledgeville, was part of the original group on Mainstreet to win the award. He says the celebration means a lot to the business.

“Having that national honor of saying for the whole downtown is something special,” he said. “Obviously, we are each individual restaurant or business, but even more so, we come together as a downtown organization.”

Schulte says the event has something for the whole family.

“There’s going to be two bands: New South Playaz and Highway 49, and then we will have different things like caricature artists, we have face painters, we have balloons,” she said.
