Hollywood Minute: Tom Cruise films in the Arctic, ‘Conclave’ surges after Pope’s death

Tom Cruise is pushing the limits once again, and the passing of Pope Francis has sparked renewed interest in Conclave

(CNN)- Tom Cruise is pushing the limits once again. In a newly released behind-the-scenes look from Paramount, the action star is seen filming intense scenes for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning in one of the most remote places on Earth—Svalbard, a stunning Arctic archipelago just 650 miles from the North Pole.

“Svalbard is just—it’s breathtakingly beautiful. What a remarkably beautiful place to be able to film. It is a unique experience,” Cruise says in the footage. Set to be the eighth and reportedly final installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, the film storms into theaters on May 23.

Netflix fans have reason to celebrate: Enola Holmes is officially back on the case. The streaming giant confirmed that Enola Holmes 3 is now in production, with Millie Bobby Brown reprising her role as the spirited young detective and Henry Cavill returning as her famous older brother, Sherlock.

Real-life events have cast new light on a recent film. The passing of Pope Francis has sparked renewed interest in Conclave, a 2024 drama about the secretive process of selecting a new pope. The film, which had quietly debuted on streaming platforms, quickly shot to the top of Prime Video’s best-sellers list following news of the pontiff’s death.
