Hollywood Minute: “super Mario Galaxy Movie” Scores Big

(CNN)- “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” is off to a hot start, bringing in an estimated $34.5 million in domestic ticket sales on Wednesday — the biggest opening day of the year so far.

Box office analysts say the animated sequel could approach $200 million in its first five days, signaling another major success for the franchise.

Meanwhile, Meryl Streep is set to executive-produce and star in a new limited series for Netflix based on the novel The Corrections.

The project marks another attempt to bring the 2001 book by Jonathan Franzen to the screen. Previous film and television adaptations were developed but never completed.

Disney is bringing back a fan-favorite series for one final run.

“Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” will return as a four-part event, with Selena Gomez making her directorial debut on the first episode.

The special is set to begin production this month and is expected to premiere this summer on Disney Channel and Disney+.
