Hollywood Minute: Sony delays “Spider-Verse” sequel
Sony is pressing pause—briefly—on the highly anticipated next chapter in its hit animated franchise.

(CNN)- Sony is pressing pause—briefly—on the highly anticipated next chapter in its hit animated franchise. “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse”, the third installment in the Spider-Verse saga, is now scheduled to hit theaters on June 25, 2027, three weeks later than originally planned. The new date aligns with a time when more schoolchildren are on summer break, potentially boosting box office turnout.
The delay will mark just over four years since the release of “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”, which wowed audiences and critics alike with its animation and multiverse storytelling.
On Hulu, suspense takes flight in “Red Eye”. The six-episode series drops Tuesday (July 22), following a London police officer and a murder suspect—who insists he’s innocent—on a harrowing journey to Beijing. The trailer teases high-altitude tension, mysterious passengers, and a gripping mystery.
Over on Apple TV+, “Acapulco” returns for its fourth and final season on Wednesday (July 23). The comedy, starring Eugenio Derbez and Enrique Arrizon, jumps between past and present as Máximo tries to restore the luxury resort “La Colinas” to its former glory—while also revisiting the 1986 staff’s efforts to outshine a rival hotel.
