(CNN)- Actor Jonathan Daviss, best known for his role in “Outer Banks,” is stepping into the shoes of a hip-hop icon. The 25-year-old has been cast to play Snoop Dogg in an upcoming biopic. The film, co-produced by Snoop himself, will trace the rapper’s legendary journey through career highs and personal challenges. A release date has not yet been announced.
Meanwhile, the music world is mourning the loss of funk pioneer Sly Stone. Known for his groundbreaking, socially-conscious sound, Stone earned a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He passed away Monday at the age of 82 after a long battle with COPD.
