Hollywood Minute: Mortal Kombat 2 delayed to May 2026, PBS documentary premieres

Fans of the hit video game franchise "Mortal Kombat" will have to wait a little longer for the next big-screen battle.

(CNN)- Fans of the hit video game franchise “Mortal Kombat” will have to wait a little longer for the next big-screen battle. Warner Brothers has delayed the release of “Mortal Kombat II,” which was originally set to debut this October. The highly anticipated sequel, starring Karl Urban, will now open in IMAX and other theaters on May 15, 2026.

Meanwhile, another story of personal battles is coming to the screen — but in documentary form. Nearly 50 years after graduating from an elite all-male prep school in the late 1960s and early ’70s, a group of classmates reconnected over Zoom during the COVID-19 pandemic. What began as casual catch-ups soon turned into deeply emotional conversations about masculinity, identity, and the pressures they faced as boys.

Those reunions inspired graduate Peter Jones to create the documentary Fortunate Sons, which explores the lifelong impact of those formative years. The film premieres Wednesday, September 3, on PBS stations and PBS.org.
