Hollywood Minute: ‘Minecraft’ sequel, Elton John reissue, and a groundbreaking new film

The sequel is set to hit IMAX theaters on July 23, 2027.

(CNN)- “Anything you can dream about… you can create!” — that’s the spirit behind Warner Bros.’ latest announcement: a sequel to this year’s hit A Minecraft Movie.

Director Jared Hess is returning to helm the follow-up, but details about the cast and plot are still, as the studio puts it, “deep in the mine for now.” The sequel is set to hit IMAX theaters on July 23, 2027.

Meanwhile, music legend Elton John is marking a milestone. His 1975 classic album Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy is getting a 50th anniversary reissue, available October 24th on LP, CD, and digital formats.

And in film, “Dear Luke, Love, Me” is drawing attention for its fresh take on emotional storytelling. The film explores queer-platonic love, asexuality, and identity — themes rarely seen in mainstream cinema. It also marks the directorial debut of Guillermo Díaz, best known from TV’s Scandal. The film debuts Friday (October 10) on Apple TV+.
