Hollywood Minute: 77th Emmy Awards

The 77th Emmy Awards delivered a night of history, surprises, and heartfelt speeches

(CNN)- The 77th Emmy Awards delivered a night of history, surprises, and heartfelt speeches.

British crime drama “Adolescence” emerged as the biggest winner. The Netflix limited series swept six major categories, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, Directing, and Writing. Cast members Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty each earned Supporting Actor and Actress honors, while Stephen Graham took home Lead Actor.

In an emotional acceptance speech, Graham reflected on his journey: “I’m just a mixed-race kid from a block of flats in a place called Kirby. To be here today, acknowledged by my peers, is the most humbling thing I could ever imagine.”

Comedy was ruled by “The Studio,” a satire about Hollywood itself. The series took home four Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Lead Actor for Seth Rogen. With a mix of humor and humility, Rogen joked: “I’ve never won anything in my life. When I was a kid, I bought a used bowling trophy at an estate sale. This feels a little better.”

On the drama side, medical series “The Pitt” claimed three wins, including Outstanding Drama Series. Katherine LaNasa won Supporting Actress, while Noah Wyle earned his first Emmy as Lead Actor. Wyle dedicated his award to healthcare workers: “To anybody going on shift tonight or coming off shift tonight, thank you for being in that job. This is for you.”

The evening’s most rousing ovation went to “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” which won Outstanding Talk Show. Colbert, addressing his audience with passion, said: “Sometimes you only truly know how much you love something when you get a sense that you might be losing it. Ten years later, I have never loved my country more desperately. God bless America. Stay strong, be brave… and if the elevator tries to bring you down, go crazy and punch a higher floor!”
