Hollywood Comes Back to Macon to Film New Movie

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Hollywood is coming back to Macon to film another major motion picture.

The Macon Film Commission tells 41NBC the DreamWorks Studios film “Need for Speed” will shoot in Macon sometime in mid-April. Officials say film makers and actors will be in Middle Georgia for several weeks.

The movie will be shot in several locations in Georgia. Several exterior shots will be done in downtown Macon.

Elliot Dunwoody with the Macon Film Commission says this is the third major motion picture to film in Macon this year. “Trouble with the Curve” and “42” used Macon’s old baseball field and architecture.

Cindy Hill with the film commission says film makers chose this city because of the great southern hospitality.

“We’re starting to get a reputation, which is fantastic, of being really welcoming and friendly and that’s due to people like you and me and being friendly and nice and cooperative and not being too put out, like when a street is closed for a couple of hours,” Hill said.

“Need for Speed” is an adaptation of the highly popular video game of the same name. It will be directed by Scott Waugh. At this time the cast includes Aaron Paul, Dominic Copper, Imogen Poots, and Michael Keaton. According to IMDb,

Fresh from prison, a street racer who was framed by a wealthy business associate joins a cross country race with revenge in mind. His ex-partner, learning of the plan, places a massive bounty on his head as the race begins.

The Macon Film Commission expects an estimated 200 cast and crew members will come to Macon as part of this production.
