Hit-and-run crash leaves pedestrian dead in Twiggs County

TWIGGS COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A 53-year-old woman was killed Tuesday evening in a hit-and-run crash in Twiggs County, according to the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office.

The fatal crash happened at 6:35 p.m. on February 10.

According to a news release, the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a person lying beside the road on Highway 96 East near Gallimore Mill Road.

Upon arrival, troopers confirmed the person was dead and the vehicle had left the scene. The Georgia State Patrol was called to assist with the investigation.

The initial crash investigation showed that an unknown vehicle was traveling west on Georgia 96 when it struck a pedestrian who was walking in the center of the road. After the impact, the vehicle continued west on Georgia 96 toward Jeffersonville.

The Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol are currently looking for a silver Dodge truck with passenger-side headlight and front-end damage.
