Historic Riverside Cemetery Conservancy hosting October tours
This year’s theme is “Notable and Notorious” Spirits.
Tours include a walk through the 126 year old cemetery and light refreshments at the Macon Public Mausoleum.
“This is not a ghost tour, this is a historical tour where we share stories about people who lived in and around Macon,” Suzanne Minarcine
Some of 2014 “Notable and Notorious” Spirits include the following:
Sister Mary Edward Cassidy- Principal of St. Joseph School for many decades and part of the Cassidy clan of Macon’s Catholic community.
Anne Royall- widow of U.S. congressman and trail-blazing woman travel writer, who on a trip to Macon in 1849, met merchant Solomon Humphreys, a celebrated free person of color
George Stallings, Sr.- a baseball manager, known as the Miracle Man of the Diamond for leaving the Boston Braves to an astonishing victory in 1914
The remaining tours will be on October 23-26 and tickets can be purchased at Mercer’s ticket office or Riverside Cemetery.
Twenty dollars for adults, free for children ten years or under and there are student discounted tickets.
Student discounts are available.
