Historic Macon asks employers to invest in Beall’s Hill neighborhood

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Historic Macon is asking employers in Macon-Bibb to support the Beall’s Hill down payment assistance program.

The program helps people buy houses in an effort to fight blight.

The Knight Foundation gave Historic Macon $800,000 to help people move into Beall’s Hill neighborhood homes, but it has to be matched before it can be used.

Mercer University has committed to matching $400,000 through its down payment assistance program.

“We attract these talented young people who move to Macon, and one of the great benefits we can offer them is the opportunity to buy a home, and to live in a home when they arrive at a lower cost than renting would be,” said Mercer University President Bill Underwood.

Macon-Bibb County leaders said for a family of four to qualify for the program in Beall’s Hill, the family income must be $40,100.

Any business, agency, school or organization interested in helping the Beall’s Hill down payment assistance program through the Knight Program is asked to contact Ethiel Garlington at Historic Macon.
