High Falls man arrested after deputies find GHB and meth

MONROE COUNTY – A man is facing drug charges after deputies say a K-9 alerted during a traffic stop.
Just before midnight on August 1, deputies pulled over 54-year-old Kenneth Hughes in the High Falls area. According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies searched Hughes’s car after a K-9 alert.
Inside the car, the sheriff’s office says they found a quarter pound of methamphetamine and two ounces of Gamma-Hydroxybutyric Acid. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office notes GHB is commonly known as the “date rape drug”. The United Stated Drug Enforcement Administration details the effects on their website.
The DEA explains that GHB has euphoric and calming effects, is known to raise libido, make people more passive. Those who consume GHB, voluntarily or not, may not remember what happened while they were under the influence. According to the DEA, those effects can start after 15 minutes and last anywhere from 3 to 6 hours. A high dose can be fatal.
In a press release, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says Hughes was taken to the Monroe County Jail without bond. He’s charged with: trafficking methamphetamine, violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act, and possessing drug related objects.
