Hester Meets with New Football Team

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Coach Barney Hester met with his new team Friday afternoon at Howard High School, and he tells us his Huskies will be ready to go in the fall.

Hester tells us he was just ready for new opportunities and has no hard feelings against Tattnall Square Academy, where he’s won more than 300 games in his 31-year tenure.

He says he is proud of the players that were at the meeting Friday and that he’s happy to be the head football coach at Howard.

The Bibb County School Board unanimously approved Hester for the positions of athletic director, head football coach and teacher at Thursday night’s board meeting.

The Huskies have won just five games since the program started in 2008 and have lost 24 straight, but Hester says he’s looking forward to the challenge.

He will finish out his contract with TSA before transitioning over to Howard later this year.
