Help needed for Tropical Storm Irma clean up
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb County needs your help cleaning up debris.
Chris Floore, Spokesperson for Macon-Bibb, said the county is offering people the opportunity to work as Field Debris Monitors.
“It pays up to $12 an hour, work at least 40 hours a week, anything over that is overtime,” Floore said.
This job will lasts for three months.
Floore said Macon-Bibb hired a company to keep track of the debris, which is why they need field monitors. The county’s next step is hiring a collection company.
He said the county is waiting for FEMA to let them know, if they can hire a collection crew to pick up all of the storm debris from Irma.
“Once the collection crew comes on, we’re gonna focus on some of the hardest hit areas, Shirley Hills, the Ingleside overlook neighborhood, some areas in Bloomfield, places that we know were hit pretty significantly, “Floore said.
But the county needs your help getting debris collected from other areas.
“They can log onto our website and there’s a category called Irma Debris Collection,” he said.
It’s difficult right now for just Macon-Bibb to collect the debris because they already have daily trash routes.
Floore said the county appreciates how patient everyone has been through this process.
“Since Tropical Storm Irma, our crews have picked up about 520 tons of debris of the smaller piles, but we don’t have the additional crews that can do that, so we got to bring in the outside company to make that happen.”
