Cherry Blossom Tree Honors Longtime Macon Volunteer Helen Weathers

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A cherry blossom tree was planted Thursday at Carolyn Crayton Park in honor of Helen Weathers, a lifelong supporter of the Macon community who dedicated four decades to local involvement, education and collaboration.

Weathers served as a respected board member of Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful for 40 years, helping guide the organization until her death earlier this year.

Her daughter, Karol Griffith, said the ceremony came as an emotional and unexpected surprise for the family.

“When we got a text message that this ceremony was gonna happen today — she was always an instigator in planning these ceremonies. And she was always careful. She always wanted to make sure the right people got recognized for this,” Griffith said.

Mayor Lester Miller marked the occasion by declaring Thursday Helen Weathers Day.
