Heavy rain and storms arrive Saturday, severe weather possible
Friday
Today, sunshine for most of the day. With a combination of low humidity and highs around 76, we continue our streak of wonderful weather this week. Later in the day at around 5 and 6, cloud cover moves into the area from the west. It’ll be overcast for the rest of the day, but as far as significant weather, expect nothing. However…
Saturday
…Saturday starts with a splash as a large wave of moisture moves into the state in the morning, starting around 5am – 6am. Heavy rain is likely in many locations, with rain estimates between half an inch and an inch likely. There isn’t a lot of convective energy in the morning, so it’ll be mostly rain with a very slight chance for storms. During the afternoon, the rain will leave but skies will still be overcast.
However, that’s just round one. A second round of moisture moves into the area later in the afternoon, and you’ll notice on the picture of the afternoon stormcast that the rain isn’t as widespread. However, you actually want it to look widespread because in those instances, there’s just a lot of rain and storms but nothing organized. Due to the isolated nature of the storms tomorrow afternoon, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some severe storms pop up during the afternoon/evening tomorrow. The timing of the second round of storms could change slightly, but right now, I’d put the timing between 4:30pm and 7:00pm. Take it seriously, but it looks like your typical spring severe storms, so it’s nothing to be afraid of.
Sunday
Did I mention a warm front is moving through the area tomorrow? It won’t do much to our weather Saturday, but on Sunday, expect a huge difference in temperatures. Upper 80s for the afternoon high with breezy westerly winds at 10 – 15 mph. Mostly sunny, dry and hot to end the weekend.
