Hawkinsville Welcomes U.S. Marine Corporal Tony Mullis

The city of Hawkinsville celebrated a homecoming this weekend.

United States Marine Corporal Tony Mullis lost both of his legs last April during his second deployment in Afghanistan. On Saturday, Pulaski County residents welcomed home their hero.

“Just seeing the whole town that I grew up in come together to show me how much they care is extremely nice,” says Mullis.

Mullis is happy to be home.

“It just amazes me how they put all of this together just to say thank you to me.”

He lost both of his legs to a roadside bomb in Afghanistan, but his attitude hasn’t changed according to friends and family.

“He’s a very proud Marine and his attitude is upbeat, outstanding, it’s amazing,” says Director of Service for Service, Kathryn Carver.

Mullis says that when he finds himself getting down, there is one thing that keeps his spirits lifted. His son, Cason, born the day before his accident.

“I stay positive because of my son,” says Mullis.

Mullis and his wife Jeanie are natives of Hawkinsville. He was assigned to the 2nd Combat Engineering Battalion, and his primary duty was locating explosive devices.
