Hawkinsville to host Juneteenth Celebration

This year's theme is "Remembrance, Resilience, Reinvention."

HAWKINSVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Hawkinsville Unity, a grassroots nonpartisan group, will be hosting a Juneteenth celebration.

The Juneteenth celebration will be at James A. Colson Park on June 15. The opening ceremony begins at 11 a.m. and the event ends at 5 p.m.

Bernice Banks, a member of Hawkinsville Unity, says this is a family-friendly event that is free.

There will be a petting zoo, face painting, bouncy and water slides, goat rides, Home Depot building activities, kids financial literacy, and a build-a-Juneteenth-flag station for children.

There will be home buying information and health and wellness opportunities for adults. Attendees who get a Covid-19 vaccine from 3-5 p.m. at the event will get a $100 gift card, while supplies last.

There will also be local vendors, live music and free food.
