HAWKINSVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Hawkinsville man pleaded guilty to trafficking methamphetamine, according to Houston County District Attorney Eric Edwards.

45-year-old Draymond Jovann Brooks pleaded guilty March 23, 2026, to trafficking methamphetamine, just before his scheduled trial was set to begin with jury selection.

Brooks was sentenced to a total of 30 years, to serve the first 15 years in prison, along with a $200,000 fine and banishment from Houston County. Brooks had seven prior felony drug convictions at the time of sentencing.

According to the news release, the Warner Robins Police Department Narcotics Intelligence Unit opened an investigation into Draymond Brooks in February 2024.

Investigators learned from citizen tips that Brooks was selling narcotics from a residence on Westcliff Circle in Warner Robins. Investigators then made several controlled buys from Brooks at this location during March 2024 and later obtained a search warrant for the residence.

The unit executed the search warrant for the residence March 11, 2024. Brooks and several other individuals were found on scene and taken into custody during the search warrant.

Officers saw illegal narcotics in plain view inside the residence, along with scales and packaging material during the search.

Brooks was transported to the Warner Robins Police Department for his arrest on the charges. After being transported to the booking room, additional baggies of methamphetamine were found on his person. In total, more than 60 grams of methamphetamine were found between the residence and Brooks’ person.

Senior Assistant District Attorney Mike Smith of the Houston Circuit District Attorney’s Office released the following statement:

“The District Attorney’s Office would like to thank the dedication of the Warner Robins Police Department Narcotics Intelligence Unit, for its efforts in working together to bring down a career criminal that has peddled poison in our community. We would like to especially highlight Investigator Joshua Dokes’ endeavors in this successful prosecution.”

Houston County District Attorney Eric Edwards released the following statement:

“This case is part of a large and ongoing effort to hold repeat drug traffickers accountable in Houston County. The defendant in this case was not new to this conduct—he had multiple prior felony drug convictions and continued to sell narcotics into our community anyway. That pattern is exactly what our office and our law enforcement partners are working to stop. We have seen throughout the last few years the devastating impact that drug distribution—particularly at the trafficking level—has on public safety. Whether it is methamphetamine or fentanyl, these substances destroy lives, destabilize families, and contribute to the broader cycle of crime we confront every day. I am grateful for the work of the Warner Robins Police Department Narcotics Intelligence Unit and for the prosecution of this case by Senior Assistant District Attorney Mike Smith. The sentence imposed reflects both the seriousness of the offense and the defendant’s history, and it sends a clear message that career drug dealers will be held accountable in Houston County.”
