Hancock County Health Department offering free flu shot clinics

SPARTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Hancock County Health Department is joining the Hancock Health Improvement Partnership and Community Health Care Systems, Inc. to help protect families against the flu.

The agencies are teaming up to offer four free flu shot clinics. The Health Department states that flu shots are at no cost to visitors whether insured or uninsured. Those with insurance are asked to bring their insurance information, but there will be no out-of-pocket costs.

“We know that some members of our community may have difficulty getting flu shots, whether that’s due to their schedule, financial situation, transportation, insurance or other barriers,” said Hancock County Health Department Nurse Manager Shirley Tucker, RN.

The scheduled flu shot clinics include:

  • Friday, Nov. 6 (9:00am – 1:00pm) Mayfield Housing Authority at 7124 Powelton Church Road, Sparta, GA 31087
  • Friday, Nov. 13 (9:00am – 1:00pm) Reynolds Brothers Community Center at 30 Covey Rise Farm Road, Sparta, GA 31087
  • Saturday, Dec. 5 (11:00am – 3:00pm) CJE Foundation at 2866 GA Hwy. 22, Sparta, GA 31087
  • Wednesday, Dec. 9 (11:00am – 2:00pm) CHCS, Inc. at 675 E Hamilton Street, Sparta, GA 31087

The Health Department states while seasonal influenza can affect people throughout the year, flu activity is highest during fall and winter. The CDC reports flu season begins in October and can last through May, peaking between December and February.
