Hamilton Signs With Mercedes, Perez Joins McLaren

WOKING, England (AP) – Mercedes has signed Lewis Hamilton away from McLaren to replace seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher.

Hamilton’s move, which had been rumored for weeks, was announced by the German team Friday shortly after McLaren said it had signed Mexican driver Sergio Perez to a multi-year deal.

Hamilton, the 2008 F1 champion, signed a three-year deal with Mercedes and will team up with Nico Rosberg next season.

The 43-year-old Schumacher’s future is uncertain.
