Groups volunteer in honor of MLK
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The MLK Jr. holiday meant a day of service for many middle Georgians.
Several dozen volunteers from Georgia Power as well as Mercer’s Lacrosse team painted, repaired, and re-purposed an old old house on Washington Street in Macon.
One representative from Georgia Power says it’s important businesses help out in the communities where they serve.
“At Georgia Power, we try not be just people that talk about things in the community, we really try to put our hands and feet on the ground,” Stewart Barr, a representative from Georgia Power, said.
The group, Rebuilding Macon, put on the event. Its mission to rehabilitate the houses of low-income homeowners, specifically elderly, and disabled so they can live in a warm, safe environment.
