Groups encouraging high voter turnout for upcoming Macon-Bibb elections

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Several groups want to remind residents to vote in the upcoming Macon-Bibb County election.

Representatives from the Kwanzaa Cultural Access Center, the League of Women Voters, and South Macon Arts Revitalization Technology and several other groups say the outcome of the May election will have a major impact on what happens locally.

A spokesman adds because of recent changes, he fears voter turnout may be low.

“You already have precinct changes. We have precinct reductions. We have so many variables that could contribute to a low turnout or to a lack of knowing that it’s even time to vote,” George Muhammad, with the Kwanzaa Cultural Access Center, said.

The group says it’s important for residents’ voices to be heard.

Early voting starts on May 2nd and election day is on May 24th.
