Group of Family and Friends Support Wounded Veteran Through “Warrior’s Walk”

HAWKINSVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A group of army men and women along with family and friends are teaming up for a cause.

They’ve been in Hawkinsville over the last few days on a mission to complete the Warrior’s Walk.

Step by step, they get closer and closer to the finish.

A team of family and friends, honoring sergeant Josh Hargis.

He’s an Army veteran who lost both of his legs from the knee down after an I-E-D exploded while he was on tour in Afghanistan last year.

The blast killed four US soldiers, and severely wounded many others.

While recovering in the hospital, Josh still managed to salute his country, creating a viral image known as the “Salute Seen Around the World.”

“There were a couple of guys were killed in action during that night. So we said we have to bring awareness that people should realize are still going down range in defending this country.

Sgt. Patrick Griffith, Josh’s brother-in-law, sat down with a group and decided it was time to do something to honor Josh and the fallen soldiers.

So they came up with the Warrior’s Walk. 17 days, 222 miles, with one goal….to get from Hinesville to where Josh’s unit is in Fort Benning.

The plan is to raise enough money for Josh’s rehab bills and to prepare for his future….he and his wife Taylor are expecting their first child.

The group is almost there, along with their two dogs Atlas and Grace.

And walk every day to get their goal.

“And then from there on, it’s 10,11, 12, 13…6 for our break day 20, and then 24 hours off and then we’ll do a three mile which is the last day which is an open invitation for anybody who wants to come,” Griffith said.

Day by day….mile by mile…all in an effort to help one of their own.

The walk has a few more stops around middle Georgia, including Perry, before they get to Fort Benning. If you’d like to follow Josh’s journey or donate visit here
