Griswoldville Monument Dedication
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A new monument will serve as a memorial to those who fought at the Battle of Griswoldville.
Members of the Gen. Edward Dorr Tray Jr. Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans dedicated the monument on Saturday at Griswoldville Battlefield Park. The Battle of Griswoldville was the only infantry battle fought in 1864 during Gen. William Sherman’s March to Sea from Atlanta to Savannah.
The monument was erected with permission from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and was funded by the local Sons of Confederate Veterans chapter.
Monument committee chairman Martin Bell designed the monument.
“Our camp members did a great job in completing this wonderful monument,” Bell said, “to honor those making the ultimate sacrifice.”
