Gray Highway Walmart Recognizes War Veterans

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Sunday is set aside to remember all veterans past and present, but this year also marks the 50th anniversary of the United States’ first involvement in the Vietnam War.

Several gathered on Saturday at Walmart on Gray Highway to remember those who have served in our military.

Among those in attendance were veterans from the Vietnam War, among others.

Public service men and women also attended the event just to say thanks to the service men and women who have fought for our rights overseas in various wars.

Store manager Tracy Smith spoke at the event.  He is a retired Army officer himself.

“About three days ago in the store, there were two soldiers who come to see me quite often here, and there was a young lady who stopped both of them,” says Smith.  “She said, ‘Don’t let them leave.’  She stopped them and hugged them.  She thanked them for their commitment and for their service.  She thanked them for what they’ve done for our country.  To see those kind of accolades given to men and women who serve who have given their life means a great deal to me as being one who served.”

According to Walmart’s website, the company shares the qualities of pride, leadership, and purpose with America’s military.

Walmart continues to actively recruit veterans and their families to its workforce.
