Grand Prix Of America In NJ Postponed Until 2014
PARIS (AP) – Formula One’s inaugural Grand Prix of America slated to be run in New Jersey has been postponed until 2014.
Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone says “the event is not going to happen” next year as planned. It was on the FIA calendar for June 16, but with an asterisk indicating it had “to be confirmed.”
The race is set for a spectacular course along the Hudson River through the towns of Weehawken and West New York, N.J.
Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner earlier told The Jersey Journal that the race was not going ahead next year. The newspaper said Turner and another unnamed mayor claim organizers are behind on road repairs and permits.
A spokesman for New Jersey race promoter Leo Hindery Jr. declined to comment on the report.
