Gordon Mayor Whipple-Lue back in council meetings

GORDON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Dozens of community members and leaders turned out for the first council meeting after Gordon Mayor Mary Ann Whipple-Lue served two temporary restraining orders.

The city agenda consisted of hot topics the city never finished handling, such as the status of the city attorney, bank accounts, contracts and the authorization to completion of a forensic audit.

Whipple-Lue started the meeting by saying she hopes Gordon citizens and council members will be able to work together going forward.

Some attendees feel the council members are not as knowledgeable about the city’s finances and other business as they should be.

Sarah Hunt with the National Action Network says, “People that are sitting on the city council are not aware of a lot of things that’s going on.”

Gordon resident Sarah Dennard agrees.

“There seems to be a big discrepancy in just the most common topics that you would think could be handled,” says Dennard.
