Goodwill’s Helms College Gets Federal Funding
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – If you’ve ever wanted to become a chef, the road to it just got a little bit easier.
Helms College, which is a part of Goodwill Industries, recently received Title IV funding for federal aid. Essentially, this means someone who is attending Helms College, can now apply for Pell Grants, student loans, and work study programs for help with financing.
According to Department Chair of Culinary Education, Jay Stancill, the 44 week program has another element that makes it unique.
“Our students have the Anderson Conference Center. It’s a thousand seat conference center, that our students get to hone their skills, in an environment that is real life,” Stancill said.
Registration for culinary school is limited to 20 per class, but more than one class will be offered. Stancill says, in the near future, Helms College will also begin to offer degrees in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, and International Baking and Pastry.
