Gollon Earns A-Sun Player of the Week Nod
MACON, Ga. (MERCER RELEASE) – After scoring a career-high 37 points to lead Mercer’s triple overtime comeback win at Valparaiso, senior forward Jakob Gollon picked up the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week award as announced by the conference office Monday.
Gollon’s selection is the second weekly award of his career and first of this season. At Valparaiso, Gollon hit 11-of-17 field goals, 3-of-4 three-point field goals and 12-of-13 free throw attempts on his way to Mercer’s highest single-game scoring total since James Florence scored 39 against USC Upstate in 2009.
Gollon also booked seven rebounds, seven assists and a steal to help Mercer erase a 15-point deficit en route to a 117-108 win on Friday night. Gollon set a career-high for minutes played, staying on the court for 51 of a possible 55 minutes.
His effort was just the fourth 30+ point performance in the Atlantic Sun this season. The Stevens Point, Wisconsin native also collected three points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals at Ohio on Tuesday evening.
Gollon and his Mercer teammates return to the hardwood on Monday evening, taking on Oklahoma at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman at 9 p.m. EST. The game is scheduled for telecast on ESPNU and WATCHESPN, while radio coverage is provided by the Mercer Sports Network (96.5 FM).
