German business to open in Perry sends team to visit the area
PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The new German business opening up in Perry sent a team over to see what it’s like to work in America.
Sandler AG is a textile supplier bringing more than 140 jobs to Houston County, according to a news release from Governor Nathan Deal’s Office.
The people who will be training American workers are in Perry this week to start their Quick Start training. It’s a state program that teaches foreigners how to work in the United States. Angie Gheesling, the Executive Director of the Houston County Development Authority, said it’s one of the reasons the company decided to put its first U.S. location in Georgia.
“Things such as how do you get your driver’s license when you’re here and a lot of things that we just really take for granted that can be quite complicated for someone that’s moving in. They will come back over in either August or September once the equipment arrives from Germany,” said Gheesling.
The team will end their week at a Braves game in Atlanta on Friday.
Gheesling said production will start at the company in September. Sandler AG should be ready to take worker applications in a few weeks.
