Georgia Teacher of the Year Named from Northeast High School

Northeast High School’s English teacher, Jadun McCarthy, has been named Georgia’s Teacher of the Year.

The six year veteran, is a product of Northeast High School, and says it’s the teachers who taught him, that motivated him to come back to his Alma Mater.

“If someone had told me 15 years ago that I would be Bibb County’s Teacher of the Year, I would have bet them a million dollars they were wrong,” McCarthy says. “To be the actual state Teacher of the Year, is something I never dreamed of, or imagined.”

McCarthy says it is his mission to make his students strive for excellence, always give 100%, and create more than just a great student.

“We talk about things like responsibility, accountability, and other things like that. So I really want to create a human being, rather than just a scholar.”

McCarthy originally studied to become a criminal lawyer, but decided he didn’t want to put people in jail for the rest of their lives. Instead, he wanted to help make people’s lives better, so he chose to become a teacher.
