Georgia Releases New School Report Cards: Where Does Your School Rank?
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Georgia’s new report card for public schools is out and some Middle Georgia schools made a grade A, while others lagged behind.
Alexander II Magnet School ranked at the top in Bibb County with 96.3%. In Houston County, Lake Joy Primary School and Quail Run Elementary were best in the class; the two schools received a nearly perfect score of 99.1%.
At least eight schools in Bibb County and one school in Houston County, Elberta Open Campus High School, missed the mark ranking below 50%.
The Georgia Department of Education’s College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) is the state’s replacement of the federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. The new system ranks schools on a 100 point-scale rather than the Adequate Yearly Performance (AYP) pass/fail system. Last year, Georgia was one of 10 states granted a waiver from the AYP accountability.
The overall scores are based on achievement, progress and achievement gap. Schools can also receive “challenge points” if they exceed the expectations.
The average score for Georgia elementary schools is 83.4%, middle schools is 81.4% and high schools is 72.6%.
Houston County Schools ranked slightly above that state’s average. The average score for Houston County elementary schools is 98.6%, middle schools is 88.2% and high schools is 75.5%.
Bibb County Schools ranked below the state average. The district’s elementary schools received 68.2%, middle schools received 65.7% and high schools received 55.1%.
“I believe the results of the CCRPI will consistently improve as we continue to work toward the goals established as a part of the strategic plan,” Bibb County’s Acting Superintendent Susanne Griffin-Ziebart said in a news release.
