Georgia Power urges customers to look out for scammers
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office received reports of “scam artists” trying to defraud customers by posing as Georgia Power employees.
The scammers have been calling senior citizen customers in Macon over the past few days.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the scam artists say they are from the “disconnection department” at Georgia Power and demand immediate payment to continue service.
Allison Gregoire, the spokesperson for Georgia Power, urges customers to exercise caution when contacted by someone claiming to be a Georgia Power representative.
“The company is never going to ask the customer to provide a credit card or prepaid debit card or number over the phone,” Gregoire said.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia Power are investigating the incidents to locate the imposters.
