Georgia Power deploys 10,000+ personnel for Hurricane Helene recovery
Company prepares for widespread outages across Georgia, urges customers to brace for extensive damage.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- As Hurricane Helene approaches Florida’s coast, Georgia Power is finalizing preparations to address anticipated widespread damage and extended power outages across Georgia, according to a news release from the company. With more than 10,000 personnel mobilized, the company is refining its response strategy as the storm nears, ensuring a safe and efficient recovery process.
The National Hurricane Center predicts high winds, heavy rain, flash flooding, and potential tornadoes as Helene moves into Georgia. Heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours has already caused flooding and weakened trees, setting the stage for further disruptions.
“Helene is a large storm moving into South Georgia with very little time to weaken,” said Kim Greene, chairman, president, and CEO of Georgia Power. “We expect significant damage across many communities. Our teams are well-prepared and will be on the ground restoring power as soon as conditions allow, but customers should prepare for extended outages.”
Georgia Power has mobilized additional staff, including assistance from Mississippi Power and other industry partners. Crews are pre-positioning restoration workers, equipment, and supplies, such as transformers and poles, in high-impact areas to facilitate a quicker recovery.
As a member of the nationwide mutual assistance network, Georgia Power has deployed crews from 35 companies across 11 states, including Texas, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. These teams are ready to begin restoration efforts as soon as it’s safe to do so.
